Keeping getting annoying emails to your iPhone or iPad that your spam settings don’t catch? iOS 13 has a new Block Sender feature that automatically archives these emails in the Apple Mail app.

Blocking Senders

To begin, open up the Mail app. Find and select an email from someone you want to block. Next, tap on their profile picture or their initials to open their sender details. Following this, select the ‘From’ section.

This will open up the sender’s contact information. Scroll until you see the ‘Block This Contact’ option. Once you select this option, a popup will appear asking you to confirm. Once confirmed, the sender is blocked. These emails will still hit your inbox, but you will not receive a notification from them. The email will also be accompanied by a hand symbol, indicating that the sender is blocked.

Block Sender Options

If you don’t want the email in your inbox at all, there is a setting for that too. Firstly, open up the main Settings app. Find the Mail option, and scroll until you find the Block Sender Options section. Three options will appear in this menu: None, Mark as Blocked Leave in Inbox, and Move to the bin. Change the setting to Move to Bin. Once completed, any email from this sender will automatically be moved to the trash.

Managed Blocked Contacts

If you decide you need to unblock a particular sender, head back to the Settings app. Navigate to the Mail section and scroll until your at the ‘Blocked’ option. Select this option and every contact that is currently blocked will be listed. Swipe left on the contact and tap Unblock.
