The streaming wars are getting more complicated as new players enter the market. After months of speculation, Apple released its pricing structure. Apple TV+ will include original programming from a variety of creators. One show, The Morning Show, stars Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Reese Witherspoon. Apple announced that the service will cost $4.99 per month. Also, any purchase of a new Apple device will include one year free to Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ isn’t going to have a huge lineup of TV shows and movies, at least in the beginning, but it will be a decent add on to cable or other streaming options. By comparison, it is the cheapest compared to other services. This will make it easier to add to an existing a la cart setup. Below is a comparison of prices among the major services:
- ESPN+ $4.99/ month
- Apple TV+ $4.99/ month
- CBS All Access $5.99/ month
- Hulu w/ ads $5.99/ month
- Disney+ 6.99/ month
- Starz $8.99/ month
- Showtime $8.99/ month
- Hulu (ad-free) $11.99/ month
- Netflix $12.99/ month
- Amazon Prime Video $12.99/ month
- HBO $14.99/ month
As you can see, the streaming market is crowded, and several companies still may release their own streaming services. For example, NBC has yet to announce the cost of its streaming service, and AT&T is considering releasing HBO Max for $18/ month. This would include HBO’s full library, new originals, shows own by Warner Bros, and might include live programing from CNN, TNT, and TBS.
